After the killing of a 17 year old boy by a "civilian" guard of the separation fence in Beth-Likia, Gush Shalom activists, together with other peace activists, carried out a spontaneous demonstration opposite the Ministry of Defense on Tel-Aviv. In spite of the short call and without any prior publicity, more than a hundred men and women took part.
According to the testimony of Palestinian eye-witnesses, the boy, Mahyoub Asi, was shot by the guard from a distance. Some weeks ago two of his cousins were also killed in a demonstration at the same place. At the time of the incident, a big demonstration was taking place in the neighboring village, Bil'in. Side by side the local inhabitants, Gush Shalom and other Israeli activists took part. Muslim sheiks led public prayers in front of the soldiers. The demonstration was peaceful, but at its end a violent clash ensued, in which one demonstrator was severely injured by a rubber-coated bullet that hit his head and six others suffered light wounds. More demonstrations took place in several villages along the fence, which is cutting of big chunks of their land.
At the Tel-Aviv demonstration, posters read "A Palestinian Boy Also Has a Mother", "This Wall is Killing All of Us", "The Wall Must Fall", "Don't Shoot - Children Ahead".
